DCE+HMP01 - Sloped Top - Floor Mounted

For years, secure facilities have faced the challenge of balancing safety, hygiene, and durability in high-risk environments. The DCE+HMP01 marks a significant milestone—receiving Ministry of Justice (MOJ) approval for use within the MOJ Property estate. Approved on 30 July 2024, this pioneering product meets the strict standards for fixed furniture in cells, including safer cells, setting a new benchmark in custodial safety.

From prisons and young offender institutions to custodial and Section 136 suites, the DCE+HMP01 is built to withstand the most challenging environments. Its approval for safer cells highlights its role in risk reduction and occupant protection. After over a year of rigorous research, development, and testing, this radiator guard not only meets but exceeds the stringent standards set by the MOJ Property Directorate, redefining safety in high-security spaces.

Key Features

Designed for high-security environments, the DCE+HMP01 radiator guard prioritises safety, durability, and hygiene. Its anti-ligature design includes a floor-mounted structure with a sloping top and 10mm radius corners, reducing self-harm risks. IP3X test-compliant grilles feature precision-engineered 2mm holes for optimal ventilation while maintaining security and strength.

Built for long-term reliability, the internal strengthening strut enhances durability, while tamper-resistant PinTorx security screws prevent unauthorised access. BioCote® Antimicrobial Protection supports infection control, and a patented drop-down door streamlines cleaning and maintenance, ensuring facilities can maintain high standards of care and efficiency.

Radius edges and bullnose corners are designed to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a slip or fall and to minimise the likelihood of the edges being used in self-harm.
2mm Zintec Steel construction ensures robust performance in the most demanding of environments. 2mm Magnelis Steel can be chosen for wet and humid environments such as ensuite bathrooms.
Integrated into the guard’s surface, BioCote® Antimicrobial Protection reduces bacteria, mould, and viruses by up to 99.99%, ensuring an extra layer of hygiene and infection control in facilities with high turnover and vulnerable populations.
The IP3X rated grille, features 2mm holes at 4mm centres, and is designed to reduce the likelihood of items being passed through the casing and to minimise ligature points, while still allowing for effective ventilation to maximise heat output.
Secure compression key locks are designed to provide fast and simple access for staff while reducing the likelihood of unwanted opening by service users. These locks are both anti-tamper and ligature-resistant, ensuring maximum security and safety in high-risk environments.
All wall and floor fixing points are strategically located internally to enhance security and minimise the risk of unauthorised access, removal, or tampering. Additionally, the DCE+HMP01 features PinTorx security screws for an extra layer of protection.
The frame’s two-piece construction enables it to be securely sealed to the wall, reducing the risk of objects being wedged behind the casing. Despite this secure installation, the patented drop-down door ensures full and easy access for thorough cleaning and maintenance.
A full drop-down/removable access door enables quick and secure access for cleaning and servicing, ensuring efficient maintenance without compromising security. Smooth surfaces simplify cleaning, supporting strict hygiene standards in high-security environments.
A tapered, precision engineered, thermostatic radiator valve shroud which reduces the opportunity for the TRV to be used as an anchor point.
The internal strengthening strut provides added reinforcement, enhancing durability and reliability in high-security environments. This feature helps the guard withstand the challenges of demanding settings while maintaining safety and longevity.
Designed to meet the highest security standards, this product has been MOJ-approved and engineered to withstand heavy-duty destruction testing, ensuring exceptional reliability in high-stress environments, including safer cells.

Applications Across the Custodial Sector

While designed to meet the specific requirements of the MOJ Property estate, the DCE+HMP01 is also ideal for:

  • Section 136 Suites: Supporting the well-being of individuals in mental health crises with a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Young Offender Institutions: Balancing safety, security, and comfort to aid rehabilitation efforts.
  • Immigration Detention Centres and Custody Suites: Providing reliable, tamper-resistant heating for short- and long-term occupants.
  • Pupil Referral Units (PRUs): Offering robust and secure heating solutions in educational facilities for vulnerable students.

Its compliance with the stringent standards for safer cells highlights its suitability for environments that demand the highest level of safety and reliability.

FAQs

Can I Use This Guard Anywhere in a Prison?

  1. The DCE+HMP01 Anti-Ligature Radiator Guard is specifically designed and approved for use in safer cells within the MOJ Property estate, meeting the stringent safety requirements for these environments. For use in other areas of a prison, such as standard cells or communal spaces, approval from the governing authority of the facility would be required.
  2. If you’re considering this guard for a non-safer cell environment, we recommend contacting us to discuss your needs. We can provide a sample for evaluation and support the sign-off process with the prison governor or other relevant decision-makers. Get in touch with our team today to explore how the DCE+HMP01 can be tailored to your facility's requirements.

What Sizes Do They Come In?

The DCE+HMP01 Anti-Ligature Radiator Guard has been rigorously tested for sizes up to 1200mm wide x 960mm high x 260mm deep, ensuring durability and performance within these dimensions.

While guards can be manufactured in longer sizes to meet specific needs, any size exceeding the tested dimensions would require local approval, such as sign-off from the prison governor or relevant authority. If you have specific size requirements, please contact us to discuss your project. Our team can provide guidance, samples, and support to help secure the necessary approval for bespoke solutions.
